Symposium

The IPEC Symposium is a signature offering open to IPEC member schools and non-members. This one-day, high-impact learning event brings together interprofessional educators, practitioners, researchers, and students to explore timely and emerging topics in interprofessional education for collaborative practice (IPECP).

The inaugural IPEC Symposium debuted on Thursday, November 13, 2025, with future events planned annually.

Each Symposium centers on a specific theme and features national thought leaders, interactive learning sessions, and opportunities for cross-professional dialogue and networking. The program is designed to spark new ideas, highlight emerging practices, and strengthen the integration of the IPEC Core Competencies into education and practice.

Target Audience

  • Faculty, educators, and leaders engaged in interprofessional education and collaboration
  • Health professionals and practitioners interested in applying the IPEC Core Competencies in practice
  • Researchers and scholars advancing IPECP frameworks, scholarship, and innovation
  • Learners and trainees preparing for team-based, collaborative care environment

Team Composition (Optional)

Team registration is not required—individual participation is welcome.

However, interprofessional teams are strongly encouraged and may include:

  • Two members representing different health professions, including at least one from the nineteen IPEC professions
  • One member with experience in IPECP, interprofessional collaboration, or relationship-based practice
  • One member involved in curriculum development or academic program planning
  • One community health partner*

*If applicable, institutions are encouraged to include a representative from affiliated clinical or community-based organizations (e.g., VA, academic medical center, health department, or community agency).

Format

The Symposium experience blends expert presentations, interactive learning, and peer exchange to support dialogue and idea generation across professions.

Participants will:

  • Engage in expert-led plenary and breakout sessions
  • Explore case studies, tools, and emerging strategies aligned with the IPEC Core Competencies
  • Share perspectives with peers and national leaders in IPECP
  • Gain actionable insights to inform their work in education, practice, and research

Outcomes

Participants leave the Symposium with new perspectives, practical insights, and strengthened connections to support ongoing innovation and collaboration in interprofessional education and practice.
