This opening session will explore how competency-based education (CBE) integrates with interprofessional education for collaborative practice (IPECP) to enhance teamwork, coordination, and communication among teams. Participants will learn how CBE supports skill development and improves outcomes for teams, patients, and communities, with practical frameworks and real-world examples, including Van Melle’s model.

Learning Objectives:
Identify the relationship between CBE and IPE for collaborative practice:
Recognize how CBE connects with interprofessional education to promote teamwork and collaborative practice in healthcare.
Describe Van Melle’s framework for CBE in IPE:

This keynote presentation will introduce you to the principles of CBE and IPECP, focusing on how these approaches can be used to design curricula that enhance collaboration among teams. We’ll also provide details about this special cohort, including who is attending and participating in the institute, and highlight shared issues and goals to guide your discussions.

COHORT ACTIVITY • Building Your CBE Roadmap for IPECP Success

Join colleagues and IPEC leaders in this interactive cohort activity, where you’ll review progress on your CBE and IPECP initiatives and share insights on project planning. This session will focus on identifying key lessons, addressing questions, and collaborating on strategies for successfully advancing IPECP. Together, we will build pathways for the continued development and implementation of CBE in interprofessional settings.

Join your teammates in a virtual room to develop and enhance your curricular project plan. IPEC leaders will be available to answer questions and enter the room as needed for coaching.

Examine your goals for attending the Institute, as well as your areas of strength and opportunities for improvement:
Identify key motivations for participation and areas for growth in your IPECP project.
• Confirm how your IPECP project will facilitate curricular change:
Describe how the project aligns with institutional goals and enhances IPECP.
• Develop an action plan for project implementation and evaluation:
Outline key steps, timelines, and assessment strategies to measure the impact of your IPECP initiative.
