Training Teams, Not Silos: Interprofessional Education Through Simulation
Wednesday, October 28, 2026, 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM EDT
Category: Webinar

Description
This webinar will explore how simulation is being used to advance interprofessional education (IPE) and prepare learners for collaborative practice. Panelists with extensive experience in healthcare simulation, including patient-partnered and interprofessional models, will share institutional examples of simulation-based IPE. Presenters will highlight design strategies, alignment with the 2023 IPEC Core Competencies, and practical approaches for engaging multiple health professions in team-based learning. Attendees will gain actionable insights for implementing, adapting, or expanding simulation-IPE within their own programs, including considerations for faculty development, learner assessment, and creating psychologically safe learning environments.
Speakers include:
- Leah Burt, PhD, APRN-FPA, ANP-BC, CHSE, FAANP, Clinical Assistant Professor; Director, Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner Program; Director of Simulation Assessment & Research, M. Christine Schwartz Experiential Learning & Simulation Laboratory, University of Illinois Chicago College of Nursing
- Bob Kiser, CEC, CHSE, Executive Director, Simulation and Integrative Learning (SAIL) Institute, University of Illinois Chicago College of Medicine
- Joseph Buhain, EdD, MBA, RRT, CMSP, CHSOS, FAARC, NREMTB, Assistant Professor, Respiratory Therapy; Director of Interprofessional Simulation and Emerging Technology, Florida Gulf Coast University
- Tina Mullins, MS, PA-C, Program Director and Assistant Professor, Physician Assistant Program, Marieb College of Health & Human Services, Florida Gulf Coast University
Objectives
- Identify key design features and strategies of simulation-based interprofessional education (sim-IPE).
- Describe how simulation-IPE aligns with the IPEC Core Competencies for collaborative practice.
- List practical approaches for implementing or adapting simulation-IPE within their own educational programs.
